Creative Play
Creative play is a term generally referring to activities involving creating something: drawing, painting, moulding in clay, making things from "junk" materials and so on, but the most important thing to remember when thinking about this for young children is that it's the doing that matters, NOT the creation that results. We need to provide the creative materials, time, space and encouragement, assist them but never "help" in terms of showing them "how to do it"
Young children are at the most creative stage of their entire lives. Everything they do is done by them for the first time, so that every action, every thought, every imaginative impulse is in a sense created by them, which is part of the magic of childhood and part of the joy of caring for the newly developing child - mind, body and spirit.
