Games
Playing early board games and other more active games such as Skittles, Quoits and Ring-Toss can be fun for young children, with the help of friendly adults who may be surprised at how much they enjoy it too! Best kept fairly short and as NON-COMPETITIVE as possible, games can be a family fun way of helping to develop a range of skills, such as recognizing pictures, matching, sorting, memory and language, hand eye co-ordination and more.
Coming to understand the idea of taking turns, sharing and following simple rules can lead children towards playing co-operatively with others. Concentration and problem solving are more likely to emerge (gradually) through enjoyable times of playing games together.
"The games children play are a huge part of the shared knowledge of their generation. They are also a wonderful way for us to spend 'quality' time with our own child. Most of all they're fun!"
